UAV

Purpose

The Robotics Club is new club at CSUB and the club members saw the opporunity to work on projects through different competitions in the area such as the C-UAV competition at Mojave Air and Space Port. The goal is the build a quadcopter that can autosoly fly to a specific location pick up a package and deliver the package without a pilot. The winner is determined by the accerace of the delivery process and the amount of time it takes to complete the whole track. This is the fitst year this competi

Progress

The drone is currently able to fly atnsfsjf towards certain waypoints. The drone will be using a jetson to handle the AI that will be sorting through the different types of targets. The software for the target seletion is currenlt working we are just waiting to test out all of the compenents together.

Challenges

The challenges we have dealt with so far mainly has to do with the transistion from a virtual model to a physical model. The tolerances for the type of pla we are using took a little bit to get used to. The type of settings for the print also took some experiementing to figire out the lightest form of infill pattern that also has durablility. We figured out that gyroid infil pattern with a 2% infill gives the plane enough durability to with stand a flight without breaking while also keeping the plane extremely light. Another challenge we have had is the 3D printing process, the filament has issues sticking to the bed while it is printing. Inorder to fix this problem we had to put glue on the printer bed inorder to keep the modles from moving during the print.
